Curatoriality™: Space, The Final Frontier
Apr 17th, 2009 | By admin | Category: NewsJust bringing you a little nostalgia for the dawn of the 20th century and its quaint but optimistic vision of humanity moving majestically into the stars.
Here at GEM we have quite a few examples of early “scientifiction” publications, including pulps and magazines that were aimed at the science/electrical/technical hobbyist audience, featuring all manner of lyrical prognostication about Man’s glorious destiny out there in the farthest reaches of Space. Of course, their vision of the future was skewed to say the least, but it may have resulted in some of the most beautiful, whimsical imagery in pop culture history.
I just came across this image and had to share it. You can see the enormous original here.
Maybe one day…although I doubt we’ll be standing outside the ship on an observation deck without some heavy oxygen gear.
